Studio Diary: Why We Made Gemini Small on Purpose

We could have chased a bigger room and a fuller schedule, but we chose 18 mats and a few quiet classes instead.

    Key Takeaways

    • Gemini stays small on purpose, holding only eighteen mats in a light-filled home room.
    • The small size lets teachers truly see you and offer adjustments and props.
    • A few classes each week keeps teaching thoughtful and prevents burnout.
    • The invitation model gathers people by genuine interest, not exclusivity.

    A room, not a franchise

Gemini started with a simple picture in mind. A light-filled room at home, a handful of people on their mats, breath moving slowly through the space. Not a lobby, not a wall of memberships, not a screen scrolling class times. Just a room set up with care and a few good hours in it each week.

We could have gone bigger. There is always a bigger room to rent and a fuller schedule to fill. We decided not to, and the more we teach, the more sure we are that small is the point, not a limitation.

Eighteen mats, and why that number

We fit 18 mats, and we keep it there. At that size a teacher can actually see you. We can notice when a shoulder is creeping up, when a pose needs a bolster, when someone is having a hard day and needs a softer version of everything.

In a big class you are a face in a crowd. In this room you are a person we know by name. That changes the whole feel of the practice. It gets quieter, warmer, and more honest.

    Why invitation-only

You get in by a member's invitation or a short request, not open enrollment. That is not about being exclusive for its own sake. It is about who ends up in the room. When people arrive through someone who already loves the practice, the group holds a certain kind of care. Everyone is here on purpose.

Slow is a choice, not a pace we settled for

A few classes a week lets us keep each one considered. We are not rushing between sessions or teaching on fumes. The practice is breath-led and traditional, and that only works when the teacher has room to breathe too.

Between the three of us, Stefani, Darcy, and Tisha, there are decades of teaching. We would rather bring all of that to a small group fully than spread it thin across a crowd.

What small gives back to you

    • You are seen and adjusted, not lost in a sea of mats.
    • The room stays calm, so your nervous system can actually settle.
    • You get to know the people beside you over time.
    • The teaching meets you where you are that day.

An open door, kept narrow on purpose

Small does not mean closed. It means we open the door thoughtfully. We open September 14, 2026, and the mats fill by invitation and by request.

If this sounds like the kind of room you have been looking for, reach out and request an invitation. We read every note, and we would be glad to hold a place for you.
